Athletics
Yr 4 to 6
Wednesday Oct 29th (pp. Nov 11th)
Events will begin at 9.30. Year 4, 5 and 6 children will be
competing in age groups in the age they were on Oct 1. Yr 4, 5 and 6 children who are 9 years of age and older and who do exceptionally well
will be part of our school team to compete in the North East Zone Championships
at Rawhiti Domain on Tuesday Nov.18th.
The following are some guidelines
so you know what your child/children are eligible for:
Children who are in Yr 4 or Yr 5 and who are 9 years old as on
October 1st are eligible for the zone sprint, relay, long jump and high jump
teams.
Children who are in Yr 5 and above who are 10 years or
older on October 1st are eligible for zone sprints, relay, high jump, long
jump, discus and shot put teams.
Children who are 9, 10, and 11 years old
as of October 1st
are eligible for the 1000 metre and 1200 metre races at the Zone Champs
These trials will be held soon after our school athletics
day.
*Canty. Primary School Athletic rules state that any
representative may only enter
the following - 2
sprints (including relay) and 1 field event or
1 sprint and 2 field events or
3 field events
*The
10 year old boys and girls have been split (evenly in ability ) into a red and
white section because of their large numbers. For this age group the top 5
children from red and top 5 from white will be selected and matched up the
following day to get the place getters.

wear their house colours, bring a water bottle, wear a hat, apply sunscreen and
have a warm jacket handy just in case.
Please bring a safety pin so
your score card can be placed on to your top.
It
should be a great day and we would love to see you down here if you can. Make sure you bring your running shoes for
the parent relay at the end.

North East Zone Winter Tournament
Congratulations to all students who took part in this event. Especially well done to our Hockey, Netball and Soccer 'A' teams for finishing first. These teams will now compete in the Canty finals on Thursday 28th August. Well done to our Hockey 'B' team who finished 3rd.

School Cross Country 2014 Tuesday May 13th pp May 14th
Please encourage your child to wear their house
colours. Morning tea will be 10.25 till 10.45am. If you are coming to watch,
please be seated in the two bays in the stand closest to the Port Hills. You
will need to be there in plenty of time and will need to keep clear of the
entrance to English Park as this is part of the course. The course starts in English Park – goes into
our school - then behind the stadium –- back into English Park and finishes in
front of the stadium. The best place to watch is in the stands at English Park.

To qualify for the School team, runners must be 8
years or older on the 1st April and be in Yr 5 or 6.
